Sutter East Bay Medical Foundation (SEBMF), located in Lafayette, California, is a not-for-profit corporation that exists to provide medical services, research and education. The Foundation provides the infrastructure for the delivery of physician services, and contracts with a separate corporation comprised of physicians and other care providers to deliver the clinical services. This multi-specialty Foundation will provide a platform from which new physicians can be recruited to provide physician services in a non-profit, community setting. The Foundation's vision is to create a medical group that will deliver high quality, market competitive medical services.

The incumbent for this position will work with the physician in providing medical care to patients, of various ages, according to the policy of the individual practice and in accordance with nursing professional standards and medical foundation policies and procedures. Clinical duties may include: taking medical histories, recording vital signs and current medications, explaining treatment procedures to patients, preparing patients for examination, and assisting the physician during the examination. Provide patients with information regarding medication use and special diets; communicate and document prescription refills as directed to the appropriate pharmacy.

Qualifications: High school diploma or GED. Graduate of an approved Medical Assisting program. Certification though American of Medical Assistants or California Medical Assistants Association. CPR must be current.

Experience: Minimum of 2 years demonstrated medical assisting skills in ambulatory care. Ability to work in a team environment. Willing to cross train in other department. Excellent communication skills.

Knowledge: Knowledge of basic anatomy and physiology. Knowledge of what constitutes a medical emergency requiring a physician or licensed nurse's attention. Knowledge of scope of practice of a Medical Assistant. Knowledge and understanding of medication administration. Knowledge of medical terminology. Knowledge of computers and their applications.

Special Skills/Equipment: Ability to read, write, and verbally communicate effectively in English. Dosage calculation skills as proven by successful completion of medication test. Competency in basic Medical Assisting skills such as chart documentation, taking vital signs, preparing patients for exam, etc. Ability to efficiently operate office equipment, i.e. fax, photocopy machine, etc. Ability to accept, implement and evaluate change. Ability to identify problems and recommend solutions. Ability to establish priorities and coordinate work activities paying particular attention to detail. Organizational skills are important for this position. The ability to manage multiple priorities and demands on time, while remaining calm. Excellent customer service skills are required for this position.
