Hours of Operation: Must be fexible during Monday - Friday, Rotational Saturdays 9am - 12pm


Sterling Bank's Teller is responsible for customer service duties related to business and personal account holders. Duties include: processing savings account, checking account, and loan transactions; cashing checks; selling money orders, cashiers checks and traveler's cheques; processing mail; providing the highest quality customer service; making qualified referrals to the platform; and balancing cash in custody. Individual works under general supervision and is responsible for completing duties efficiently and accurately, ensuring that service expectations are met or exceeded.


Minimum Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Cash handling experience
  • Exceptional cash handling accuracy and speed
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced team environment, handle multiple tasks and prioritize work
  • Ability to apply general accounting knowledge (debits, credits, balancing) to processes
  • Ability to apply knowledge and sound judgment in decision-making using established guidelines
  • Ability to solve problems; must possess excellent analytical skills
  • Enjoys working with the public
  • Excellent record of achievement in banking products and sales
  • Ability to recognize and follow through on referral opportunities
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Good time management and organizational skills
  • Proficient level computer competency including Microsoft Windows (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Proficient use (by touch) of 10-key calculator
  • Accurate keyboarding skills (30-35 wpm)




Preferred Qualifications:

  • Some college
  • One year of related experience in a bank or credit union
  • At least six months experience in customer service or sales
  • General knowledge of banking products, entity documents, policies, processes and procedures
  • General knowledge of banking systems
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) highly desirable



Duties:

  • Processes checks and cash for deposit or withdrawal according to established guidelines
  • Processes business and personal transactions, change orders, TT&L payments, night depository and cash advances
  • Processes payments for loans according to established guidelines
  • Sells cashier's checks, savings bonds, money orders, traveler's cheques and/or other negotiable instruments
  • Processes mail deposits
  • Balances all cash on hand including but not limited to ATM, TCD machines and vault
  • Refers customers to relationship bankers for bank products and services using prescribed methods and follow-up
  • Performs opening and/or closing duties as requested or assigned
  • Performs other related duties as requested or assigned



Working Conditions:
Generally good, with little exposure to noise, extreme temperatures, dust or other adverse factors; as with any cash-handling position, there is always the possibility for having to deal with attempted theft or robbery
Some physical extremes such as regular lifting of boxes, bags and other items (up to 30lbs.) and necessity of standing for long periods of time
Ability to work shifts, rotations, weekends and/or flexible schedule
A significant amount of pressure to work effectively and accurately while exceeding customer's expectations
Considerable effort and eye strain from continued checking on the accuracy of all work
