Translational Strategist - Infection Research Job Summary
Responsibilities The translational science strategist will develop the Infection Translational Science strategy and deliver translational science studies to facilitate clinical evaluation of small molecule anti-bacterial candidates. Provide strategic and tactical leadership in the area of anti-bacterial research at the Discovery and Development interface. Be recognized as a high impact resource within the global organization, actively engaging in a cross-disciplinary fashion with other AstraZeneca functions and external collaborators, to promote global and local solutions to project and strategic challenges. Accountabilities: Strategic Influence and Planning · Proactively influence the Infection strategy, tactical planning and initiatives. · Identify solutions based on the external environment and factors outside of area of responsibility · Effectively communicate strategy and business objectives throughout the Infection organization, as well as inform local and global leadership of emerging issues, as needed. Scientific Impact and Influence · Act as a scientific and strategic resource for local and global Infection discovery management/organization to advance the drug discovery process at the Discovery / Development interface. Consider factors outside of area of responsibility and seek out relevant information. · Drive interactions with external parties, collaborators, colleagues and project teams in a timely manner to advance the discovery and development of new antibacterial drugs. · Be recognized both internally and externally for expert level scientific competence; be a scientific and technical resource for scientific collaborators and local management teams. · Develop and enhance relevant scientific, technical or management expertise and an awareness of competitive activity. · Contribute to the delivery output of the discovery organization through designing and implementing experimental approaches and technologies/tools or through managing a key group or process. · Collect, analyze and summarize data for presentations, reports, publications and patents. Leadership/Management · Organize, lead and motivate scientific or technical teams/ cross-discipline collaborators in a matrix reporting framework · Exemplify and promote AstraZeneca core behaviors and develop leadership throughout the organization · Ensure experimental procedures are carried out in accordance with AstraZeneca policies and procedures Qualifications Degree level required and minimum years experience: · A strong candidate would typically have a Ph.D. or M.D./Ph.D. and 10 or more years of experience, or equivalent experience, of which a minimum of 6 years should be in the pharmaceutical industry or other relevant setting · Experience in anti-bacterial discovery and development is desirable Competencies (knowledge and skills): · Internally and externally recognized expertise in a scientific, technical or organizational area and the capacity to apply literature and theoretical concepts to the advancement of Infection portfolio goals. · Possess strong problem solving skills and the ability to, on the basis of their own experience and analytical skills, ascertain the value of and initiate the use of new techniques for solving problems within and beyond their immediate project. · Have a complete understanding of the AstraZeneca drug discovery and development process. · Understand and work towards the AstraZeneca business objectives. · Be highly productive: consistently generating high quality results within established time frames, even in areas of limited precedent. · Possess strong knowledge and understanding of relevant database and scientific support software. · Be a proactive communicator with excellent verbal and written communication and listening skills. Solicit opinions and feedback from others. Deliver presentations that are well thought out, informative and convincing.
