Location and team
Our Power System Planning and Management group is seeking a Senior Director, Protection & Control Automation with experience in substation, line, and equipment protection and control systems engineering. The successful candidate will be based at either our Raleigh, North Carolina or Fairfax, Virginia office.
Tasks may include
Sales:
- Rainmaker—responsible for initiating and securing sales orders to existing and new clients that are of strategic value.
- Responsible for developing overall strategies for major proposals.
- Can articulate value of KEMA’s services to the client.
- Sales targets average $1-4 million per year
Business Development:
- Client Manager / Account Executive—Develops strategic relationships at multiple levels at Key Accounts. Understands client issues and formulates on -target solutions that leverage multiple KEMA domains.
- Provides thought leadership, developing or influencing the development of product/service offerings on the basis of new concepts.
- Has a wide network that extends beyond own area of specialization and understands how to use this in the best interest of KEMA. Consciously builds long-term relationships with the important parties in the market by establishing a solid network of formal and informal contacts.
Consulting:
- Principal-in-Charge (PIC)—with responsibility for projects of strategic interest to KEMA that involve and entail a significant degree of uncertainty and financial risk. Plays an important role in defining the problem and solution with the client; contributes to the improvement of the client’ s strategic position.
- Responsible for project execution and quality of delivery; works with Project Managers to assure that quality deliverables are completed on time and on budget, with no overruns; optimizes revenue recognition.
- Able to negotiate staff assignments to maximize resource utilization.
- Able to comprehend complex systems, constructions, and/or business situations. Combines scenarios with in-depth calculations.
Leadership:
- Team player— defends the reputation and interest of the organization. Serves as role model bymaintaining a positive professional attitude and encouraging others to do the same. Creates team spirit and helps other team members to feel valued, respected, and self -confident. Sets challenging business-oriented goals for him/ herself and works concertedly toward achieving them, even in the face of setbacks and lack of results. Achieves improvement of the business process for clients and within KEMA
- Provides formal and/or informal mentorship to other consultants.
- Provides project evaluations for Project Managers.
Protection & Control Automation Services include development of design strategy, architecture, and design specifics for protection and control (P&C) systems. Projects may focus on all types of conventional relaying design, as well as new P&C approaches based on data communications links or local area networks and messaging. Applicants should be familiar with:
- Characteristics and use of old and new generations of protective relays
- Relay application and setting for transmission and distribution systems
- Substation control design and related utility operating procedures
- Distribution Automation (DA) design and related utility operating procedures
- Protective relaying communications infrastructure
- Data communications technology and applications for relays and substation control
What we're asking
- Master’s degree in engineering (or greater)
- 15+ years of relevant experience.
- Familiarity with broad power system concepts such as system reliability,transient stability, reactive power management, voltage stability, and wide-area measurement systems are desirable.
- Experience with utility and/or manufacturer organizations and contemporary utility business environment is valuable.
- Strong skills in organizing and documenting technical work.
- Proven track record of delivering $1-4 million per year in revenue on new business opportunities
- A high level of visibility within the industry, with an established networks of contacts and relationships with key players
