Description The Director of Major Gifts will identify, cultivate, solicit and close individuals, foundations and corporations with the capacity to make gifts, grants and pledges. The position will lead the major gifts fundraising effort and will work very closely with the Chief Development Officer, Directors, Trustees, and some of the most highly respected physicians in the world. Creativity, outstanding oral and written communication skills, an entrepreneurial spirit, and drive are essential to success in the Director of Major Gifts position.

A major capital campaign at Mass. Eye and Ear is currently being planned, and this position is critical to that campaign. In this collegial, action-oriented department, the Director of Major Gifts will be empowered to help shape the future of fundraising at this exciting time in the hospital’s history. The Director of Major Gifts will join a mid-sized, friendly, dynamic work environment. This is an ideal opportunity to take an outstanding career as a major gifts officer to the next level as a development leader.

Requirements Possesses strong leadership skills, maturity, drive, imagination, intelligence, initiative, and strong social skills. Exemplary verbal and written communication skills. Supervisory experience desirable. Bachelor’s degree required. Advanced degree desirable. More than 5 years of directly related, successful experience in fundraising with a proven track record of consistently closing major gifts. Hospital fundraising experience preferred, but not required.
