| The Sr. Manager of Strategic Sourcing, part of the Global Operations group, is responsible for key decision making in the Strategic Sourcing team. The individual will be responsible for leading a cross-functional team with multiple commodities to ensure that Palm selects and engages with World Class suppliers.
Duties/Responsibilities: This person will be in support of Strategic Sourcing in the design and implementation of global sourcing strategies to deliver best value to Palm. The Strategic Sourcing Sr. Manager is responsible for the project management in selecting and managing of key core component suppliers, to enable Palm to be the most competitive producer of Smartphone and Accessory products.
Support the development and launching of new products per planned schedule through: - Early involvement with R&D engineering on alternative sourcing identification and preliminary supply agreement negotiations. - Conduct comprehensive supplier analysis and screening (strategic direction, financial due diligence, capabilities and capacity, risk assessment). - Analyze complex supplier proposals and use decision making tools/models to facilitate award recommendations - Formulate, negotiate and maintain contracts.
Continuously improve Palm’s competitiveness through: - Initiate product cost management and cost reduction programs to ensure the achievement of quarter over quarter cost reduction targets - Drive VMI hub programs with suppliers to assure continuity of supply and on-time delivery, maximize supply line flexibility, and minimize Palm’s inventory exposure - Work with the SQE team to assure suppliers deliver the world class quality to Palm and its manufacturing partners - Assure supply chain partners to support Palm’s global supply chain strategies
Provide strategic supply chain and supply base management: - Execute supplier performance programs, technology roadmaps and business reviews. - Cultivate strong relationships with Preferred Supply Base. - As required, periodically travel to Palm’s suppliers & EMS/JDM sites located primarily in Asia
Qualifications: -Minimum 10 years hands-on experience in commodity management, working in an extremely fast-paced, high-tech environment. -Minimum 7 years experience in semiconductor commodities and supply chain management is required. -Minimum 3 years experience in working with R&D engineering in new product development -Demonstrable experience in overall semiconductor technologies (memory, processors, wireless, etc.) Education: - Bachelor’s degree in Business, Mathematics, Engineering or equivalent required. M.B.A. highly desired. Other Desirable Skills/Experience: - Solid leadership skills and exceptional analytical skills (i.e. cost modeling, quotation analysis, supplier selection) - Strong negotiation skills and experienced in formal contracts. - Hands-on experience in establishing VMI hub programs with suppliers and EMS/JDM partners - Extensive experience in dealing with Asian supply base and EMS/JDM relationships. - Ability to establish and successfully lead multiple commodities team - Excellent written and verbal communication skills - Proficiency in MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint and versed in Agile, SAP ERP system
