People`s Resource Center (PRC) is a not-for-profit social service organization located in Wheaton, IL that serves DuPage County residents in need of basic services (food, clothing, and housing financial assistance) and empowerment services (ESL, computer training, and art enrichment. The PRC serves approximately 2,200 families per month, has an annual operating budget of $2.0 million, has 29 employees and over 1,030 volunteers.

The People’s Resource Center (PRC) is looking for a Housing Specialist to work 40 hours/week to assist with the management and disbursement of homeless prevention funds. This position is a grant-funded position and reports to the Director of Housing. The candidate will be eligible for full time benefits: paid time off, pension, health insurance, short-term disability insurance, life insurance and flexible spending account participation.

Responsibilities include:

Ø Conduct pre-screening interviews and client assessments to determine eligibility of housing assistance according to established guidelines

Ø Connect program participants with needed support services

Ø Act as case manager for designated families

Ø Communicate with landlords and mortgage companies to ensure timely housing assistance

Ø Maintain accurate and complete client files and processing forms

Ø Assist with grant and internal reporting requirements

Ø Assist with inputting and updating all housing related databases

Ø Assist with compilation of program statistics

Ø Identify, analyze, and make improvements to internal department procedures to ensure efficient and effective systems

Requirements include:

Skills

Ø Highly organized with a great attention to detail: strive for 100% accuracy

Ø Compile, analyze, and evaluate data

Ø Strong communication skills

Ø Exercise professional judgment to resolve moderately complex problems

Ø Computer Literate: working knowledge of Word, Excel, Outlook, and Internet

Ø Must have a valid driver’s license and own a vehicle. Traveling to and from multiple sites is required

Knowledge/Abilities

Ø Commitment to PRC’s mission, values, and grassroots structure

Ø Enjoys working with clients in a social service organization

Ø Able to maintain a high level of confidentiality

Ø Able to work independently with some guidance and direction

Ø Knowledge of HMIS or Crystal Reports preferred, but not required

Experience/education

Ø Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in humanities or social service area

Ø 3 years of similar work experience
