Sr. Server Engineer - Managed Services
Position Summary: The Sr. Server Engineer position is built around the ITIL Problem Management standard and is responsible for solving re-occurring issues or problems. The SSE will be involved with solving incidents (per ITIL Incident Management function) as well. The SSE will have responsibility for daily ticket and support requests, server, network, storage, and backup systems troubleshooting, and ensuring that all customer requests are properly managed for the Managed Services division of Speakeasy. SSE will work closely with our DBMs and Change Management teams to ensure that all aspects of the customer's ongoing system administration are successful. SSE will strive to prevent or solve the recurrence of incidents by getting to the root cause. The SSE will ensure that customer requests are expedited and issues are resolved timely. This position requires hands on experience in an 85% Linux 15% Windows environment.
Your responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Working with a team that oversees the entire customer management process via trouble ticketing, ensuring that customer response times are at a predefined minimum and that support staff properly respond using correct literature and well thought solutions.
- Being the central knowledge point for assigned customer production environments. SSEs will learn their assigned customer's applications and infrastructure from a break-fix support perspective.
- Minimizing the adverse impact of Incidents.
- Problem control - identifying root cause and advising Incident Management on "work-arounds".
- Error control - ensuring known errors are resolved through change.
- Being responsible for the creation and maintenance of application flow diagrams, RTS, "How To's", and other informational articles as appropriate.
- Ensuring availability for escalations for assigned customers 24x7 on a rotating, on-call basis.
- Identifying and correcting re-occurring technical issues within assigned customer(s) environments.
- Completing all Windows, network, and Linux/UNIX system administration tasks requested by collocated and managed services customers.
- Open trouble tickets with remote facility staff or work directly with DFW facility staff to locate inaccessible servers, diagnose hardware faults and oversee repairs. Where applicable, be available to walk techs through or oversee a remote technician in identifying and repair customer initiated misconfigurations that leave servers inaccessible.
This position requires the following skills and experience:
- Academic: Bachelors in IT or MIS, industry experience will be considered in place of formal education
- 3 - 5+ years experience with network, server platforms, storage, mail systems, and backup configuration, support, and administration roles
- Hard Skills: Ability to configure, troubleshoot, and support Red Hat Linux, CentOs, Exchange, IIS, Windows 2000/2003, SQL, Active Directory, network devices (Foundry load balancers, Cisco ASA/PIX products, firewall and VPN devices), network concepts (DNS, DHCP, TCP/IP), storage, and backup solutions (NAS, SAN, Veritas)
- Industry Certifications: MCSE, CCNA, Linux+, CompTIA Linux+, Server+ are desired
- Experience in supporting systems in a 24x7 production environment
- Strong ability to manage multiple projects, time management, coordinate with other staff and departments, and prioritize accordingly
- Soft Skills: Leadership and organization , exceptional problem solving skills, excellent communication and customer service skills, documentation skills, ability to work in a team environment, and possess a strong sense of urgency
- Position is Monday to Friday 9:00 am to 6:00 pm. This is an exempt level position.
- Strong hands on experience with Linux required.
