Mechanical Engineer III --Scroll Pumps/R&D: Varian Inc.

Duties:

Responsible for the design and development of the company's vacuum technology products. Design complex mechanical and vacuum prototype system components using various computer tools to achieve overall design goals for product performance, cost, and schedule. Design layout of system packaging and integration of electronic, electrical, and mechanical components and controls; and design mechanical components and assemblies to meet specifications for size performance; cost; helium and vacuum integrity; product lifetime; and schedule. Perform stress, thermal, and vacuum analysis using computer simulations and hand calculations. Perform laboratory testing on prototype systems and sub-systems, including the development of test plans, design and assemble test equipment; correlate and plot, and generate a written engineering report to document the goals, procedure, data, results, and conclusions.

Qualifications:

Bachelors degree, or foreign equivalent, in Mechanical Engineering,, or related

Experience: Five (5) years professional experience. Professional experience must be post-baccalaureate and progressive in nature.

Skills Required: Must have professional experience as follows: Design of rotating machinery; Design of compressors, blowers, fans, or vacuum pumps; Solid modeling and 3D CAD; Testing and qualification of new products; Performance improvements of existing mechanical products; Cost reduction of existing mechanical products; Simulation of mechanical components and processes through numerical and analytical methods; Certification of products to UL and similar standards.
