| Director, Electro Mechanical Global Supply Management
The Director, Electromechanical Global Supply Management position is a management role responsible for key decision making, strategy setting, and GSM management in the Global Supply Management team. The individual will be responsible for developing best in class strategic sourcing strategies while leading a multi-functional commodity team to ensure that we select and engage with World Class suppliers.
Duties/Responsibilities:
The Director, Global Supply Management is responsible for managing a team and directly selecting and managing key core component suppliers, enabling Palm to drive our world class Smartphone and Accessory businesses. Responsibilities include:
- Strategic supply base management - Cultivation of strong relationships with preferred supply base. Coordinate this relationship with all cross functional groups within Palm including Engineering, Operations support, RL (Service), Quality, and Planning. - Prepare and present cross functionally a sourcing strategy that identifies how the strategic sourcing activities will meet company’s goals. - Monitor cost savings and define budget impacts. Track planned vs. achieved savings. Develop core metrics to monitor and measure performance. Supplier scorecards, actual to projected cost savings, cost savings per GSM dollar invested etc. - Develop Supplier performance programs, technology roadmaps and quarterly business reviews. - Contract formulation, negotiation and maintenance. Improve contractual language to world class procurement terms and conditions - Attract, develop, and retain talent. Develop and implement a GSM training plan that increases the GSM value proposition to Palm and results in a significant upgrade in Palm’s GSM talent. - Integrate GSM activities into all aspects of a product life cycle including new product development, design to cost in new product development, supply chain inventory management, EOL management etc. - Drive sourcing decisions via multi-functional commodity team. - Develop with your Engineering partners, a supplier strategy for short term and long term supplier selection and optimization. - Manage assurance of supply, supply line flexibility. - Periodic travel to Palm suppliers & Contract manufacturing or ODM sites located primarily in the Far East. Qualifications:
- 7-10 years experience in commodity management, working in an extremely fast-paced, high-tech environment. - Solid background in mechanical commodities and supply chain management is required.
Skills/Experience:
- Strong negotiation skills, and experienced in formal contracts. - Solid leadership skills & exceptional analytical skills (i.e. cost modeling, quotation analysis, supplier selection) - Technical knowledge/expertise in mechanical commodities - Extensive experience dealing with Far East supply base & outsourced manufacturing and design relationships. - Ability to establish and successfully lead cross functional commodity teams - Excellent written and verbal communication skills - High energy and the enthusiasm to establish a strong GSM team. - Exceptional analytical and problem solving skills.
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree required. M.B.A. preferred.
