Minimum Requirements : Incumbent must possess a High School Diploma or equivalent + 6 years environmental work experience (specialized education or Vo-Tech training may substitute for experience). In addition, the incumbent must be able to demonstrate in-depth knowledge of state and federal environmental regulations, with emphasis on hazardous waste treatment, storage, transportation, and disposal regulations; be capable of working independently, using judgment and discretion to make decisions which may impact facility operations and compliance; and demonstrate the ability to work with people of varied backgrounds and myriad objectives. Job Description : SUMMARY: Supports the Environmental/Compliance Branch by performing a combination of related tasks to ensure all operational activities are in compliance with federal, state and local environmental acts, regulations, laws, and rulings. Duties require that the incumbent function as the primary environmental resource for operations, maintenance, and other personnel. Duties in this area are critical to ensuring that the facility remain in compliance with established environmental requirements and therefore, require that the tasks and duties be completed with a high degree of accuracy and reliability.
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:
1. Performs a combination of duties necessary to ensure environmental compliance for all areas. Duties include, but are not limited to, the following: - Conducting environmental inspections of all areas of the facility to include process units, maintenance, operations, warehouses, and hazardous waste storage areas. - Documenting and reporting inspection findings and working with plant personnel to define, present for approval, and implement appropriate corrective actions and resolutions. - Developing and implementing training programs and job aids as required to support the environmental culture. - Consulting with supervisors concerning unusual problems and developing and offering technical advise to assist in resolving such issues. - Acting as the focal point for routine Department of Solid and Hazardous Waste (DSHW) visits.
- Functioning as the primary environmental resource for operations, maintenance, and other personnel. - Attending all critical activity meetings and providing environmental input to the decision-making process. Approving or disapproving activity based on environmental considerations. - Acts as the Environmental Officer in declared emergency situations. - Supports the URS safety culture by performing all duties in accordance with the below listed safety responsibilities and enforcing a safe work environment. - Performs other duties as assigned.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES: SAFETY: URS/EG&G enforces a safety culture whereby all employees have the responsibility for continuously developing and maintaining a safe working environment. Each incumbent is responsible for completing all training requirements and fulfilling all self-aid/buddy-aid responsibilities, participating in emergency response tasks as requested, and serving on safety committees and teams as requested. In addition, the incumbent must accept the responsibility for maintaining the safety of themselves and others by adhering to all written and verbal instructions, promptly reporting and/or correcting all hazards or unsafe conditions, questioning nonstandard operations or environmental factors that may involve unmitigated hazards, and providing feedback to site leads and management on all safety issues.
PROCEDURE COMPLIANCE: Incumbent must read and understand the general and specific operational, safety, and environmental requirements of all plans, procedures, and policies pertaining to this job and sign a statement acknowledging completion of this job requirement and their acceptance of the requirement to perform all procedure steps without deviation.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Works in proximity to toxic materials. Duties require entrance to areas containing toxic chemicals or materials. May be required to work using and/or wearing protective equipment. The individual and supervisor assure that the degree of risk is reduced to the lowest level.
Performs hazardous waste management duties and/or worker duties in EPA permitted or regulated facilities. Duties may involve one or more of the following: management, coordination, engineering, or technical work involving hazardous waste management programs or projects; or movement, containerization, storage, identification, record keeping, emergency response, treatment, and/or disposition of hazardous waste. Such duties require the ability to interpret and implement environmental regulations; knowledge of hazardous waste products and safety regulations; and the skills to effect regulatory requirements and ensure proper management and/or handling of hazardous wastes.
