Alta Bates Summit Medical Center is San Francisco East Bay's largest private, not-for-profit medical center with a total of 1,082 licensed beds. Each of our campuses has 24-hour emergency, obstetric and medical/surgical services in both Oakland and Berkeley. Responsibilities include reviewng all in/outpatient contract billing accounts and necessary attachments for accuracy prior to billing. Analyzes charges on claim form specific to contract language, completing reimbursement form and attaching same to billing statements. Identifies underpayments for all contract accounts by reviewing audit reports and working directly with the Contracting office. Rebills accounts for additional payment, resolving discrepancies/problems with the insurance representative directly. Assists in maintaining logs relating to underpaid accounts. Assists in maintaining quality control in the billing and follow-up areas. By maintaining high standards of excellence, helps the Medical Center fulfill its mission by providing compassionate care and respecting the dignity of others. Applies the principles of "continuous quality improvement" which includes working cooperatively with colleagues and projecting a service orientation toward all. Performs other related duties as may be assigned.

Associate's degree preferred. One to two years experience with HMO and/or PPO contract language relating to reimbursements. Healthcare business office experience preferred. Knowledge of billing a follow-up relating to third party payers and non-government programs. Knowledge of third-party payor intermediary and collections. Demonstrates flexibility in performing assignments. Ability to use standard office equipment inlcuding computers and keyboards.
