This position is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations at Internap data centers including field operations and engineering personnel, security staff, site facilities and maintenance, critical systems, security and surveillance systems, budgets, customer installations, and the overall customer experience.
The data center manager will have full responsibility for all site activities, budget, vendor management, preventive and predictive maintenance programs, customer service, sales support, 100% uptime and SLA’s, personnel training and mentoring, teambuilding, and adherence to company policy and procedures through proactive leadership.
This position works closely in a team environment of other Data Center managers in developing policy, short and long term goals and objectives, and working on projects and process through collaborative teamwork.
Reporting to the Director of Data Center and Field Operations, this position will require strong technical and business skills along with a extensive background in people management, best practices, data center operations, construction, quality, and the ability to work well in a demanding environment. |
Summary of Key Responsibilities
|
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following: |
|
1. Maintain day-to-day operations at Internap managed collocation and partner sites including facilities operations and customer installation and support services. |
|
2. Work directly with Colo BU, product marketing, provisioning, installation engineers, technical consultants, NOC, and other implementation personnel to coordinate customer turn-ups, process flow, to ensure smooth transition from sales to customer implementation.
3. Data Center Manager responsible for contractor bidding process and award selection, preventative and pro-active vendor maintenance contracts, contract security staff, and overall contract/vendor management and purchasing of goods and services. The Data Center Manager is also responsible for establishing an annual budget and financial accountability for the data center operational expenditures.
4. Direct management of HVAC, generator, life safety, electrical and monitoring systems to assure 100% uptime, proper operation, engineering excellence, corporate standards, and customer expectations in relation to the facility including corporate sponsored SLA’s (INAP and Partner sites). |

5. Responsible for the design and creation of policies/procedures for operational excellence, process flow, and documentation. Works closely with auditors, landlords, and other support staff on documentation and site preparedness. |
|
6. Responsible for adherence to budget, corporate business controls, and procurement guidelines. |
|
7. Provides detail analysis and completed staff work including business case development and powerpoint presentations to senior management.
8. Provides site leadership, implements training, and acts as both a coach and mentor to site personnel,
9. Effective time management and priorization of work activities including email management, people management, customer drawing development for installs, and timely response to customer quotes/installs/resolutions.
10. Reconcile billing and vendor payments of services, goods and customer installations with purchasing, accounts payable and accounts receivable departments |

11. Maintain national electrical code and OSHA standards for site operations. |
|
12. Manage security personnel, security systems and security procedures |
|
13. Work closely with department Director, data center mangers and other field operations team members to development functional goals and objectives.
14. Lead preventive and predictive maintenance initiatives.
15. Maximum # of pounds required to lift on an occasional basis - 50 lbs.

Qualifications/Experience
1. Extensive/Recent experience managing data center or collocation center operations
2. Demonstrated ability to effectively manage facilities, time, people, systems, and budgets.
3. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously across multiple locations.
4. Experience managing both local and off-site engineering personnel.
5. Expertise in supporting BU goals, real estate requirements, design and engineering services, and other related construction/build objectives.
6. Proven experience managing $10 million to $20 million facilities budgets as well as new/retro-fit projects.
7. Expert knowledge of critical systems including power, cooling, fire, safety systems
8. Demonstrated knowledge of Building Monitoring Systems, CAD, and other facilities management tools and systems.
9. Minimum of 10 years progressive management experience in data center and colo industries.
10. Demonstrated experience in management of complex/cross functional IT projects including experience with business and technical issues.
11. Four-year engineering degree or related degree and/or equivalent field experience.
12. Extensive experience/knowledge of mechanical and electrical contracting, design, and problem resolution required.
13. Demonstrated leadership in LEED and Green Building Technologies

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS
- 10 + years of facilities management experience - 10 + years of supervisory / staff management experience - Ability to understand blue prints, diagrams, construction contracts and related documents. - Ability to lead others and manage cross functional projects/meetings
