| Sr. Test Engineer
Serve as a Sr. Test Engineer in the development of high-volume, mass production board-level and device-level test equipment, test programs, and debug processes for new products and releases to Palm's external ODM and contract manufacturing sites. Works closely with product hardware and software development engineers to develop and achieve test improvement strategies that lead to continuous cost, productivity, and quality improvements. Works closely with mass production manufacturing sites to identify and incorporate their requirements into the initial product design and manufacturing test solution. Participate independently in engineering design reviews and drive the implementation of department test methodologies and guidelines Travels to mass production sites to roll out the new product seamlessly.
The candidate should be proficient in debugging instrumentation issues at a HW and SW level as well as having a very good knowledge of production and manufacturing test systems. The candidate will be responsible for manufacturing test interface with HW development and implementation through ramp and production for Palm's smartphone products.
Duties will also include understanding the Palm smartphone instrumentation, test requirements and test solutions, perform instrumentation system level debug, and the generation of design and test documentation and user manuals.
Independently or under minimal supervision, evaluates product performance for design margin, testability, and launch readiness. Works with development, lead-site manufacturing & test groups, and suppliers to improve yields and ensure a product has sufficient margin for high-volume production.
Scope of Responsibilities/Expectations
Work on the design of RF, WiFi, Bluetooth, and other test technologies. You will support GSM and CDMA radiated and conducted measurements, WiFi/Bluetooth measurements; spurious tests; perform troubleshooting of failures; provide relevant engineering/technical support Tech Spec Compliance, phase gate, Qualification, ALT Review/Validation, NPI Support and others. Lead and manage different ATE/Test projects and ensure that the proper validations are conducted to validate the system. Debug any instrumentation (HW and SW) issues encountered during the implementation of these test systems. Summarize and draw conclusions from test results leading to effective technical resolution. Work closely in the investigation of production/manufacturing test issues and resolve these issues cross-functionally with hardware and software engineering teams. International (Asia, Mexico, Brazil) travel will be required to support production and manufacturing setup. Monitor product performance to optimize yields & margin to spec (Cpk) for cellular products and major electrical-mechanical subassemblies. Either independently or by leading a problem-solving team, identifies and resolves quality, reliability, yield and cost problems. Drives corrective actions between owners in supply chain, development, test teams, supplier quality teams, suppliers, etc. Helps determine test requirements for new products & technologies and ensures those solutions are optimized for cost & quality. Presents experiment results and proposals to development teams & management
Education Requirement
BS in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
Experience Required Minimum 5 years of directly applicable experience with high volume test technology design, integration and testing, preferably with mobile handsets. Minimum 5 experience with high volume production flow including testing, setup, and parametric data acquisition/reporting is essential. Direct experience with different wireless communication systems such as 802.11, Bluetooth, GSM/GPRS/EDGE, WCDMA, CDMA, CDMA2000, GPS/A-GPS highly desirable. 1 year experience and ability to apply statistical tools – Cpk, GR&R, DOE Experience testing SW and HW handheld consumer devices. Combination HW and SW integration experience is ideal. Must have Hands on ability use of EE lab equipment from oscilloscopes to data acquisition systems and RF equipment. Must have a strong working knowledge of Software and Hardware system test methodologies and processes Excellent written skills including technical analysis and reporting (e.g. production hardware/software application notes).
