Infinera currently has an opportunity for the qualified individual to work in a small, high-energy team environment developing world class leading edge optical transport equipment as a Staff Hardware Engineer in our Sunnyvale, CA location. Job Responsibility:
- The candidate shall have a proven track record of delivering complex board level products incorporating digital circuits, analog circuits, high-current power circuits and have working knowledge of fault tolerant systems.
- Demonstrate ability to go beyond rule-of thumb design practice in the area of circuit timing, high –speed transmission lines, clock distribution, power decoupling, thermal management, power distribution and best EMC design practices.
- Have experience in defining detailed board level circuit implementation and generate test plans to carry out comprehensive product validation.
- Drive designs from conceptual work, functional specification, design, prototype, H/W bring-up, verification and compliance testing.
- Support product through pre & post production release.
- The candidate must be a team player and a self-starter.
- Write detailed board/system level functional specifications.
- Write detailed test / validation plans.
- Perform schematic capture.
- Analyze Signal Integrity issues and be able to assess well understood implementations.
- Drive PCB placement and board layout.
- Support fab and assembly of prototypes.
- Work closely with diagnostics and software developers to define bring-up and debug requirements. Support design through debug, integration and validation test.
- Be attentive in scheduling reviews through all critical stages of development.
- Provide Engineering with guidance via functional and design reviews to ensure high level of product quality, reliability, and functionality.
- Participate in cross-functional leadership and coordination of release content through the product life cycle gate process with Engineering, Test, Marketing, Sales, and Support organizations.
- Guide Development Engineering and System Test on technical matters, including technical and schedule tradeoffs.
Job Requirements:
- MS/BSEE and minimum of 10 years experience with board level hardware design experience including strong knowledge of schematic capture, PCB layout, logic & signal integrity simulation tools.
- At least 3 years experience in systems engineering or senior system-level architecture role at a telecom equipment vendor.
- Experience writing detailed technical requirements documents for SW and HW engineers.
- Technical experience with carrier class transport systems and applications including at least one of the following technologies: DWDM, SONET/SDH, Ethernet, or Fiber Channel.
- Qualified candidate for this position must be able to operate with minimal supervision, work in a multi-task environment across organizational boundaries, and communicate effectively.
- Ability to function effectively at both strategic and tactical level.
- Strong analysis, problem resolution, judgment and decision-making skills.
- A solid understanding of complex HW and SW system architecture and products.
- Experience working with remote development teams is strongly desired.
- Strong experience with microprocessor & digital circuit design, implementation of high speed I/O and clock termination techniques required.
- Knowledge of optical components required.
- Knowledge of Cadence Concept, HSPICE, HyperLynx is a strong plus.
- Strong knowledge of high-speed bus design and signal integrity concepts required.
- Experience with implementation of on board power converters, dc-dc step-up, buck and linear regulators.
- Knowledge of power sequencing, clock skew control and compensation.
- Knowledge of PCB fabrication & assembly design rules, product integration with mechanical components.
- Expertise in use of logic analyzer, oscilloscope, voltage meters, and BER equipment required.
- Knowledge of various Ethernet 802.x and Telcordia standards is a strong plus.
- Familiarity with Safety and EMC design practices.
