This position is based in Waltham, MA
The position of Associate Research Scientist is primarily responsible for the design, development and completion of biological assays used to analyze the efficacy, potency, viability/toxicity, tissue specificity, gene and protein expression profiling and other relevant endpoints in the testing of compounds. These duties are carried out under general supervision by Director of Biology, and may involve the oversight of Laboratory/Research Specialist to complete the work.
Qualifications Education and Experience:
- BA/BS in Biology or a related field with 3+ years of experience in the academic and/or biotechnology industry or MS in Biology or a related field with 1+ years of experience in the academic and/or biotechnology industry. Alternatively, an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the individual with the required knowledge, skills and abilities is acceptable.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Extensive understanding and knowledge of both the theory and application of general molecular biology techniques including, but not limited to: RNA/DNA/Protein extraction and quantification, SDS-PAGE, Western Blot, ELISA, qPCR, branched DNA/RNA hybridization, multiplex gene and protein profiling, aseptic culture technique of primary and immortalized cell lines, immunological assays such as ELISA and Immunohistochemistry
- Proven competence in laboratory notebook record keeping and common analytical software tools such as Microsoft Office and Graphpad Prism or equivalent statistical software
- Utilization of an analytical approach to assay development and troubleshooting, including refined critical thinking and decision making capability
- Active involvement in furthering expertise through literature monitoring and conference presentation/attendance to advise scientific decision making on future projects is expected
- Simultaneous management of multiple projects and programs within the office and laboratory environment, including scientific and managerial requirements
- Management skills of laboratory assistants and technicians for completion of experimental procedures is necessary
- Experience in teaching new procedures to supervisees and/or team members
- Effective technical writing, written and oral presentation skills to explain procedures to both members of the company in addition to vendors, external colleagues and peer-reviewed journal boards
- Must posses an attitude and style that promotes leadership and cooperation to work closely with internal team members, external colleagues and as an individual with general supervision.
