Hours listed are per a two week pay period. The Palo Alto Medical Foundation (PAMF) for Health Care, Research and Education is a not-for-profit, community-based multispecialty group practice of medicine. PAMF patients are cared for by the more than 850 physicians from the three historic medical groups affiliated with PAMF: Camino Medical Group (CMG), Palo Alto Medical Clinic (PAMC) and Santa Cruz Medical Clinic (SCMC). PAMF provides care to patients at its clinics and medical centers throughout Alameda, San Mateo, Santa Clara and Santa Cruz counties.

The Medical Assistant in our Urgent Care department provides assistance in patient care under the direction of the physician within the medical assistant scope of practice. Primary responsibilities: Documents patient information. Utilizes sensitive communication skills, promotes a sense of well being in the patient and family and provides comfort and dignity to all patients and families. Administers medication within scope of practice. Reports changes in a patient's condition promptly and appropriately to the physician. Mobilizes resources during a crisis. Collects specimens and performs simple laboratory and screening tests according to policy and procedure. Under the direction of the physician, phones in prescriptions, schedules diagnostic tests and returns patient phone calls. Demonstrates accuracy and understanding of insurance referral process and need for timely follow-through. Sets up and assists with procedures, demonstrates appropriate sterile or aseptic technique and use of universal precautions. Under the direction of the physician, reviews instructions with patients. On a daily basis, collects and reviews all fee tickets for accuracy and turns in according to department policy. The Medical Assistant may be called upon to fulfill the PSRI duties based on department/staffing needs.
Must be flexible to work weekdays,evenings and every other weekend High School diploma or equivalent. Completion of accredited Medical Assistant Program, or documentation of training. Current CPR card. AAMA, CCMA, or NAHRMA certification preferred. One year current clinical experience as an M.A. preferred. Basic knowledge of clinical procedures, medical terminology, anatomy and physiology. Ability to communicate effectively (written/oral).
