Nurse Practitioner, Bariatric Surgical Coordinator
The Bariatric Surgical Coordinator will plan, coordinate, and implement care of the bariatric surgical patient through all phases of obesity treatment including workup, surgery, and recovery with life-long multi-disciplinary team management. Serve as a liaison between the weight loss surgery out-patient clinic and the participating surgeons practice, hospital bariatric nursing staff and key related areas of the hospital for the care of the bariatric patient. Perform patient assessment including comprehensive physical examination, post clinical procedures under the physician's directions and collect and interpret diagnostic data and testing as needed. Develops and maintains active bariatric practice. Job Functions I. Coordinate the care of the bariatric patient including pre-operative assessment, surgical requirements and post operative follow-up under direction of the physician. Collect and interpret diagnostic data as necessary including making referrals as appropriate. II. Develop, implement, and monitor comprehensive best-practice bariatric program as part of a multi-disciplinary team. III. Develop and implement bariatric education tools and materials for the clinic staff, hospital, and patients and provide regular in-service education to nursing and key staff. IV. Maintain continuing education including membership in ASMBS or other obesity related organization. V. Responsible for oversight of ongoing BSCOE compliance. VI. Collect and processes all clinical outcomes data in a timely and accurate manner. VII. Assist physician on hospital rounds and prepare progress entries for patient medical record. VIII. Is a member of the Bariatric Education/Curriculum Council and attends all meetings. IX. Initiate or change patient care orders under circumstance of change in condition under physician orders.
