Lubbock Probationary Police Officer Salary:
- $19.81 per hour – salary while in the Police Academy
- $41,221.44 the first year of employment
- $26.26 per hour (after five years of service)
- $54,624.96 per year (after five years of service)
- Eligible for promotion to Corporal after 2 years time in rank.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS |

| In order to qualify for the position of Police Officer, all applicants SHALL: |
|
|
|
| |
1. |
Be at least 20 1/2 years of age (20 years, plus 182 days); and not have reached 45 years of age on the day of the entrance examination. |
| |
|
|
| |
2. |
Be a High School Graduate. (No college credit required)
OR
If not a High School Graduate, posses a G.E.D. certificate WITH at least 12 semester hours of credit from an accredited college or university with at least a 2.0 grade point average. College transcripts must accompany the application for G.E.D. certificate holders. |

3. |
Be a United States citizen. |
| |
|
|
| |
4. |
Possess a valid driver's license not in jeopardy of suspension. No driver's license suspension within the last 2 years. No more than 2 moving violation convictions within the last 12 months and no more than 5 moving violation convictions within the last 24 months. Be covered by a current motor vehicle liability insurance policy. A valid Texas driver's license will be required at the time of appointment. |

Not have been convicted of a "Class B" misdemeanor or its equivalent within the last one hundred twenty (120) months. |

Not have been convicted of a "Class A" misdemeanor or Any felony. |
| |
|
|

7. |
Not be on probation for a criminal offense above the grade of "Class C" misdemeanor. |
| |
|
|
| |
8. |
Not be under indictment for a felony, Class A misdemeanor or Class B misdemeanor offense. |
| |
|
|
| |
9. |
Not have ever executed at anytime a confession to a felony offense, if that confession is admissible as evidence in any criminal proceeding in any state or federal court. |

|
|
| |
10. |
All applicants shall be fingerprinted and subjected to a search of records and fingerprint files to disclose any criminal record. |
| |
|
|
| |
11. |
Not have had a license by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officers Standards and Education denied by final order or revoked, or have a voluntary surrender of license in effect. |

|
|
| |
12. |
Have been discharged from any and all military service under honorable conditions. |
| |
|
|
| |
13. |
Be of good moral character as confirmed by a thorough, comprehensive background investigation. |
| |
|
|
| |
14. |
Be in good credit standing after having a complete credit report evaluation with financial data being provided by applicable credit agencies. |
| |
|
|
| |
15. |
Business necessity requires that past drug usage may be grounds for rejection for employment. This information will be verified and evaluated on an individual basis. An employer, such as a law enforcement agency, may impose a qualification standard that excludes individuals with a history of illegal use of drugs (Federal Register Vol. 56, No. 144 Section 1630.3). |

Possess uncorrected visual acuity of 20/100 or better in each eye with both eyes correctable, with eye-glasses, to at least 20/20 binocular vision, or 20/200 or better vision correctable to at least 20/20 binocular vision with contact lenses; and the ability to distinguish between the basic color groups. |

17. |
Be examined by a licensed physician and be declared in writing to be physically sound and free from any defect which may adversely affect performance of duty. |
| |
|
|

18. |
Be examined by a licensed psychologist and be declared, in writing by the psychologist, to be in satisfactory psychological and emotional health to be a Probationary Police Officer.
