"Men don't like playing bingo but they will go into a room with a pool table," Ullery said.

The bathing area will have a spa-like atmosphere with aroma-therapy, music and fountains.

"So residents won't feel like they're just going to be bathed down the hall," Ullery said.

And the meals will be served family style with place settings and stemware, she said.

Outside there will be a gazebo, green space and an area where residents can plant flowers.

The new nursing home also brings to the Bartlett area needed space for seniors, Ullery said. Many area nursing homes have waiting lists and there are few providers in Arlington, Lakeland and into Fayette County, she said.

"We recognize that this is an under-served area," she said.

Bartlett, like the rest of the country's population, is aging, but often it's the parents of residents who need housing, said Debbie Morrison, city spokeswoman.

"What you have a lot more of in Bartlett are some families with parents who are aging, one (parent) has died, but the house isn't big enough for the whole family or that situation's not right for them," Morrison said. "So it's nice to have these kind of facilities for them so they have some independent living and they're close to their children and their grandchildren."
