OUR HISTORY Danville Regional Medical Center began with 28 women and a vision. Seeing a need in the community, the Ladies Benevolent Society established a facility more than 120 years ago that was christened “Home for the Sick.” From that modest beginning, we have grown steadily in both size and capability to ensure that residents of the Dan River region can experience excellent care close to home.
OUR FACILITY Danville Regional Medical Center (DRMC) is a 350-bed acute care hospital located in the heart of the Dan River Region. DRMC provides high-quality healthcare to residents of communities in Southern Virginia and North Carolina. The hospital continues to move forward as one of the leading healthcare providers in the area with the addition of a linear accelerator, 64-slice CT Scanner and millions of dollars in capital investments. Another example of DRMC’s commitment to quality and excellent patient care is its open heart program in affiliation with Duke University Health System. DRMC is also unique in that it owns and operates the School of Health Professions (School of Nursing and Radiologic Technology Programs) to provide education in the classroom and “real-life” clinical experiences. These are just a few examples of how DRMC lives up to its mission of providing healthcare excellence close to home. . OUR COMMUNITY A mix of historic Southern elegance with a strong industrial hub, the city of Danville offers its residents a great life. Situated on the edge of the Blue Ridge Mountains, the community has a spectacular, natural backdrop. The Dan River flows from the mountains into the Kerr Reservoir then through the center of town. The setting allows residents to take full advantage of the surroundings by utilizing the lake for recreational purposes such as boating, canoeing, fishing, hiking and bicycling. Residents also enjoy the leisure aspects of the lake and mountains by walking the various paved trails, basking in the sun or settling in for a picnic along the water’s edge. Throughout the year, Danville boasts a unique array of community events including: Annual Shrimp Festival, Festival in the Park, and the Old 97 Rail Days. In addition to these events, residents also take advantage of the seasonal farmer’s market, outdoor concerts, arts, antique stores, local restaurants, area parks and watching the Danville Braves Appalachian league baseball team.In a community rich with history, culture, family events, and a growing economy, Danville is the perfect place to realize your dreams and build your future.
