The MetroTransit Police Department has an authorized strength of 424sworn personnel.Our officers provide a variety of law enforcement and public safety services on the Metrorail and Metrobus systems in the Washington,DC metropolitan area.Transit Police Officers have jurisdiction and arrest powers throughout the 1,500 square mile Transit Zone that includes the District of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia, for crimes that occur on, to, or againstTransit Authority facilities and serve a population of 3.2 million. Our extensive police training is second to none and prepares men and women for uncommon opportunities.Recruit officers complete 38 weeks of rigorous basic training followed by 10 weeks of field training.
