Back Yard Burgers was founded by Lattimore M. Michael, a grocery-store owner known for his delicious homemade burgers, in Cleveland, MS. The first restaurant opened on March 21, 1987, in Cleveland, MS and the first franchised restaurant opened in Clarksdale, MS , in March of 1988. Although Back Yard Burgers started as a double drive-thru concept, most restaurants now include a full dining room with a self-service beverage center and standard, single drive-thru format. Back Yard Burgers features premium 100% Black Angus Beef burgers and chicken sandwiches, served hot off the grill with fresh toppings and gourmet sauces. The menu also features seasoned or waffle fries, hand-dipped shakes and malts and freshly-made lemonade.
