Aviation Technology Schools award Associate of Applied Science and Bachelor of Science degrees and certificates. Degree Options in include Air Traffic Control, Aviation Administration, and Professional Piloting. Aviation Maintenance Technology, or Aviation Technology Maintenance, programs prepare the student as a professional Aviation Maintenance Technicians, a highly skilled profession in which technicians have the responsibility for keeping aircraft in air worthy condition.
The Aviation Technology Associate of Applied Science ( AAS)- Airway Science Degree program includes the required FAA license courses and courses in English, communications, and electives required by standard university AAS degrees.

I would say you could just about write your own ticket with a good amount of training or experience in this field.
You know just recently there have been stories in the news about major airlines kind of taking some flack for not having proper maintenance or proper records of maintenance.
I expect that with those circumstances the airlines are/will be hiring in that department. If you're military trained it should go even better for you.
You might have to relocate to a hub city for a major airline. Dallas has American, Atlanta has Delta, etc. But that may be something you'd enjoy.
