What is a typical work day (tasks) like for an executive recruiter?
Asked by STEPHEN M
I was recently searching job listings and happened to land on an executive recruiting firm's web page. I didn't find any jobs in my current profession (urban planning), but the firm itself had an executive recruiter position that looked interesting. I have no relevant experience in recruiting, but hold an MBA. I have been flirting with the idea of seeking another profession. As such, I am wondering what executive recruiting is like and if my MBA would be relevant?

PHONE, PHONE, AND MORE PHONE...I have been in professional sales the past 10 years and after getting laid off went to work for a recruiter...did it for 3 months and absolutely hated it!!! It's all about cold calling, which I don't mind doing, but you're not selling a tangible product. There were no marketing leads, no limitations on territory, so essentially, everyone in your office is also a competitor. If you don't like going down a phone list making 300 calls per week to unknown people within a company, then you wouldn't like recruiting. Just my two cents:)
