Should I aspire to be an electrician?
Asked by Chuck H
Well, I started taking electrician classes at my local community college until it hit me... we're in an energy crisis! Everyone's turning to alternative energy sources! Am i getting myself into a doomed trade? Is there no future for electricians?

Alternative energy simply means different ways of producing electricity. In fact, as a trained electrician, particularly in the newer types of generation, your skills will be in greater demand. I say go for it. Most of the old timers won't understand the technologies that you will be learning.

No, you're not doomed ! LOL ! Everywhere in the USA is wired for electricity. That's not going to just magically go away and be replaced with some unseen (as yet) alternative energy source. I think we're talking about at least a century before even some of that starts to really start working out. Plus, even if it did start changing over faster, they would still need electricians to safely remove the old wiring and such, right? No worries, mate. Should be a good career for you.

Finish the training, everyone needs Electricians.. Once you have completed the course get a job with a reputable company who will train you further - then you can learn how to fit solar panels! Get as many qualifications under your belt as possible and you will never be out of work - until you have made your fortune and decide to retire early that is... Good Luck!

Even if they have solar or some other alternative, it doesn't last all day, so they always need to use the backup power eventually.
