No you don't. Practical Nursing and Registered Nursing are 2 different things. Practical Nurses only receives a certificate and goes to school for about 1 year. Registered Nurses receive a license, associate's degree, and go to school for 2-4 years or more. If you contact your local community college, you can see what their program requirements are for their RN program. Some RN programs require you to be CNA certified, but most don't. Get on their website and you can see it right now. Do a google search for the school. It will also tell you what courses you will need and the entrance requirements for the nursing school and the college. I always tell people that LPN is good if you need a career now, you want to start nursing sooner than later, you are financially in a situation where you cannot afford RN school or to be in school for so long without working in the field. RN is good for those who are financially stable and have the time to dedicate themselves to the program, without being in a rush. However, many LPN's go back to school for their RN. Good luck!

No you don't. You have to see what the requirements are to gain admission at your local college or university. Good Luck! I think it is a wonderful career choice.

nope. There is the LVN program and the RN program. There is a special program for a LVN to bridge to an RN but you don't have to be an LVN first and i plan just on getting my RN first and save time and money.
