What kind of education or background do you need to be a Travel Agent?
Asked by Cristal
I always thought that working in the travel industry would be fun! I prefer not to work in a airport as I have tried that one already and wasn't too happy. I was hoping to get a little more information on position from those who know about it or are working as travel agent themselves. How do I get my foot in the door? Thanks in advance!

My mom works in the travel business and used to be a travel agent. That's how she supported me when I was little. She has since moved up the corporate ladder and is now a Vice President. She only had a high school degree (She never finished her Associates). It's not that difficult to get your foot in the door. You just have to find the companies to apply to. You need to look professional and have good customer service skills. My mom got my friend a job where she works. She also only has a high school diploma. She works in the call center scheduling flights for people and hotel reservations.

Since you are so sparing with the thumbs down, I believe you'll do just fine... Can hardly wait get the call...

Well it can be fun and it can have its downside as well. People are always changing their minds and that is something you need to be prepared for.
