I work for a nursing home and I am the admissions coordinator, first of all as long as you can handle the care of this man, and his family is willing to pay there is no reason for him to go into a home. If it was geting to a point we he is no longer ambulatory ( getting around) then it might become a problem. Just make sure that he is getting the best of care, if he is bed ridden make sure he is being turned avery so many hours so he doesnt get bed sores. Some families dont understand you just cant put someone in a nursing home they have to be deemed approite for long term care. Keep him home as long as you can. I took care of a man until he took his last breath, and his family kept him home knowing that I was taking good care of him. He was 95 when he exoired. Good luck

As long as he is able to cope with all the activities of daily living, be safe, and be healthy & you can provide what he needs; he can be at home. There is no set of rules when someone needs to be placed. Some people are never put in a nursing home. It usually happen when caregivers can no longer provide the basic necessities of life.

This always ust be an individualized decision based on what is in the best interest for the gentleman. What level of care does the gentleman require? Is he able to be alone for some periods of the day? Is he able to manage any of his activities of daily living? I personally believe that if a person can maintain in their home and they want to live in their home, that's where they should be....as long as they can live there safely. Many seniors who are "put" in a home without their agreement go into depression and deteriorate quickly

Well I think that you should keep him in the nursing home. He will be a lot safer. When should a senior be put in a nursing home is a great question! And I've got a great answer! A senior should be put in a nursing home when they no longer can take care of themselves.

It would completely depend on how much care they need. It has nothing to do with age. If he does not need 24 hour care and you can provide the care by yourself, he is fine. If he needs care 24 hours a day and/or you cannot safely care for him by yourself, it would be good for them to look into a nursing home. If he just needs supervision or a few hours of care, an assisted living facility may be a better option. They allow for some care, but would provide an apartment and more independence for him. They would provide food and cleaning services and a limited amount of medical care. If he surpasses what they will accept, he may have to go to a nursing home. Some places allow people to hire aides to cover what the facility won't, so if they want him to be supervised but want something nicer than a nursing home, they could look into assisted living facilities and having you (or another aide) go there to make up for what the facility won't if necessary.
