If you are an accomplished typist - word processor and have recently visited your local city college or university librarian, you can apply as a "certified" graduate typist, earning between $1.50 to $2.00 per page for a master or doctoral thesis. The librarian will provide you with a sample of the typing template (i.e., margin settings, font selection, page set up, etc.) in order to complete these projects. An average weekend income is about $300-$400 for two days work.
Good luck!

these online jobs are just as real as the Nigerian Princess who has $28,000,000 in a London bank and is looking for a trusted person to take delivery of the funds.
they are just as real as the Toyota lottery that you have won, even without entering, for $14,000,000.

Most data entry jobs with a joining fee are scams. Key for Cash is a legit data entry company with no joining fee, but they have a long waiting list. If you are a good listener and can type fast, you can also apply for transcription jobs listed at http://de7.info . Local businesses may also outsource their data entry, so you should contact them directly

There are a few legitimate data entry companies but are not hiring and have large waiting lists (1-2yrs). The majority of data entry jobs you seen online are scams. A real company will want you to have skills (fast typing, 10 key), may want you to know excel, and will usually ask that you have high speed internet. Once in a long while you may found one online on a job website but it is rare.
One option is to freelance and bid for data entry jobs. However, you are bidding along with many people and often other countries-so you may have to bid really low just to get a job and/or project.
Another option is to offer data entry services to businesses in your area. It can be done, I know people who have done this but it is not easy to do.
This website explains how to find a genuine data entry job from home:

You will hear of a lot of people who claim to have found this work and are making a fortune. The only way they really make money is by getting others to pay them to find work - not by actual work.
There are data entry jobs available, but they are generally only available very locally. The pace of business today prohibits the type of data entry you remember from years back. However, there are always businesses which need to take analog data (maybe handwritten job applications, for example) and turn them into computer entries. Even with optical character recognition, there is still a need to data enter or verify what the system read. Occasionally, this work can be done from home once you've proven yourself with the employer.
Look for evening shifts for data entry (often found thru temp agencies) and once you've built a reputation, see if their servers can be accessed remotely so you could work from home. I think more and more of these jobs will be done at home, but they will extremely short time-lines, what comes in today needs to be in the system tonight, for example, with none of the flexibility you remember.
Good luck.

•Hi! Just a warning here, legitimate companies do not send out spam mail to attract workers. They typically don't even have to advertise at all because there are so many out there that desire work from home jobs. One rule I follow is if they request a fee and/or do not provide details of a position I run the other way. None of the companies I have worked for have ever asked me to pay any type of fee. To get good information about legitimate companies go to http://www.workathomedesk.com which is a free site that also has a frequently updated jobs leads. Good luck!
