cable installer can you be color blind?

I failed those dot tests. But I seem to see colors fine in normal circumstances. I put together my pc just fine bunch of coloered wires in there.

Most common colour blindness is a red/green problem. Both colours look sort of greyish to colour blind people. There is also degrees of colour blindness, some can see less or more difference in colour saturation.
For work as a cable installer, particularly telephone or data lines, you need to have at least 50% colour proficiency. Its administered in a simple test, where you have to read a number that is hidden in a bunch of randomly coloured dots. Without it you'll have difficulty splicing the right wires.

What are the main colors in a cable : black, brown, red, orange, yellow, gray, blue, violet , green , white. Then there would be a combination of the above two colors like black and brown, black and red, black and orange , black and yellow etc.
The cable jointer doing wiring in cases where the color coding is important , cannot afford to be color blind. cables would be in bunches of 50 or 100. each with its main color and a mate color. The jointing process depends upon connecting together wires of the same color. Any wrong connection can cause mess ups and many man-days on corrective action. .
Therefore it would be important that those who are not color blind be selected for such work.

Depends on what type of cables. If I was color blind I wouldn't want to be lacing up SCSI cables or terminating 50 or 100 pair telco cables (people who arn't color blind have a hard time finding the right pairs).
