I used to be a field supervisor for RCN of California in San Francisco, Daly City, & San Mateo. The city and state that you live in makes a big difference. We were starting guys off at 14 an hour with no experience and 20 dollars an hour for seasoned techs with good references. The average was about 18 bucks an hour. That was over 5 years ago so I would expect those numbers to be higher now.
If I were you, I would go interview with them and see what they have to offer. When you apply, just ask that they do not contact your current employer. If they like you, they will send you an offer letter with your starting rate of pay. You can either accept it and give notice at Hotwire, or reject it and stay where you are. RCN's benefits are really good and they treat their employees great in my opinion.

I found this answer on Ferguson's Career Guidance Center:
According to the U.S. Department of Labor, the average annual pay for nonsupervisory cable and other pay television installers and repairers was $37,530 in 2005 for full-time work. Salaries, however, vary based on the type of job done, an employee's experience and education, and the company's location. At the low end of the pay scale, 10 percent of line installers and repairers had annual earnings of less than $23,610 annually, while at the high, end, 10 percent earned more than $65,450.
Cable television technicians may receive a variety of benefits, depending on their employer. The benefits can include any of the following: paid holidays, vacations, and sick days; personal days; medical, dental, and life insurance; profit-sharing plans; 401(k) plans; retirement and pension plans; and educational assistance programs.
With all of your experience, you should be sittin' pretty! :)
