What does a UPS seasonal driver helper do?
Asked by Tony S
I see that a few UPS hubs are hiring for UPS driver helpers between the Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday season.
So I have two questions...
1.) What is it like being a seasonal driver helper? How is the pay and how many hours is one expected to work? Is it difficult work?
2.) Is there any chance of getting a job as a regular full-time driver with UPS once the holiday season is over?

1. UPS is hiring individuals to work as temporary, seasonal Driver Helpers. This is a physical, fast-paced, outdoor position that involves continual lifting, lowering and carrying packages that typically weigh 25 - 35 lbs. and may weigh up to 70 lbs. It requires excellent customer contact skills and a lot of walking.
As a Driver Helper you will not drive the delivery vehicle but assist the driver in the delivery of packages. Driver Helpers usually meet the UPS driver at a mutually agreed upon time and location each weekday (Monday through Friday) and typically do not work on weekends or selected holidays. Hours vary but usually begin after 8:00 a.m. and end before 8:00 p.m. Driver Helpers must comply with UPS appearance guidelines.
2. It depends on the location. The requirements as a driver include a DOT physical exam. Package Delivery Drivers must have excellent customer contact and driving skills, including the ability to operate a vehicle equipped with a standard (manual) transmission. Qualified applicants must have a valid driver’s license issued by this state.
