Is a job in operations for an investment bank or portfolio management firm a good route to becoming a trader?
Asked by heezy
I am just graduating college and deciding what areas in finance to purse. I have good grades but not top grades from a top school so ib seems a bit out of reach. I plan on doing my CFA.

It depends what your options are. Operations at an investment bank/ portfolio management company is very different from being a trader. However, I do know of some folks who get a great brand on their resume and leverage it to a different role. If you have an option to work on something more directly tied to getting the skills you need to be trader, that's probably a better route. Hope that helps.
