What careers can I go into using Spanish?
Asked by Rachel
Obviously, I want to make decent money... doesn't everyone? I'm not looking to be filthy rich; just comfortable. We were pretty poor growing up and I want to give my (future) children better opportunities. I'm going into my second year of college. I'm fluent in Spanish and have yet to delare a major. I'd like ideas possible career choices. I know obviously I could teach... become a translator etc. If you've got more specific ideas I'd love to hear them. Lists or websites will also be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

You could become a liaison to a country (a friend of mine was a liaison to Russia many years ago). You could work at an embassy or consulate. You could work in the travel industry. You could work overseas as a missionary or in many other capacities. You could become a counselor, doctor or whatever (we looked all over the place for a counselor fluent in Spanish who also understood adoption issues & didn't find anyone locally). Just some ideas.

There's an over-abundance of Spanish speakers. I don't think you'll be able to make a lot of money at it ... far too much competition.
