In a big corporate firm, the usual functions of an IT Maintenance Department are to provide hardware supports; including installation, updates, and end users inquires through-out the company. In general, they are the people you go after if you want a new mouse, printer, or monitor. Yes, and they do sit around downloading pornos into their 800 GB harddrive. Also, they do computer setup for new employees and vice versa. The only cool thing about it is that you'll get new computer stuffs like blackberry.

Mostly sit around and drink coffee, fart, chew gum, download porn on company time and equipment, and tell folks, "No, We can't do that. Sorry."... It's a tough job, but SOMEBODY'S got to do it. In India, they'll do for 1/20th the price, on an out-sourced basis, of course...

They're responsible for the maintenance of the IT system and equipment, including fixing problems when they occur (in theory, anyway!)
