How can i become an auto mechanic in NY?

Hi i am 19 years old and i want to be a mechanic to make money so i can buy a car. How much do they make average, and what do i have to do, or where do i have to go? I would appreciate advice/tips as well

well to begin with do you have experience what can you fix or repair on a vehicle do you know multiple car lines any A.S.Es certifications? how about tools and toolbox? can you do drivability you do know what drivability is right? kid lets not candy coat this being a mechanic is a hard job physically and mentally to fix cars these days you need to be highly skilled and dont mind going broke spending 1000s on tools get greasy breathing exhaust fumes having a sore back, etc etc etc but if you are serious try your dealership or independent shops or midas etc try for a lubetech position,be willing and ready to learn you might also try an internship at your local college.www.fordasset.com. goodluck.I hope this helps
