Yes - in addition to studying the field of administrative assistant - it wouldn't hurt to learn about the field of personal assistants. A good administrative assistant remains aware of her employer's needs. I have been an administrative assistant for 30 years. Most education that promotes me has very little to do with the clerical duties of my job - though my career depends on my proficiency in those tasks.
