Some managers go above and beyond, whats an example of a manager youve had that has gone above and beyond? What traits did your manager process that makes you think of him-her as a great leader?

Best Answer:
I think a great manager is someone who respects each worker individually and not only challenges his/her employees, but encourages them by providing positive reinforcement for doing a good job. I think it is also important that they do not pick 'favorites' and treats everyone as equals. They need to be someone you can confide in and also have fun with!

I think a great manager will at times be hands on doing the job of the people he/she manages. Shows an understanding of what is involved and an appreciation for the little guy.

My boss is very fair and flexible. As long as his employees do the work and when they are suppose to do it, it doesn't matter what they do when there isn't much to do. He does not like to micromanage. He always looks out for us when is time for raises or bonuses. Sadly he is retiring in 4 years.

Good managers: Open Communication: I hate it when my old boss would tell me to do somehting, with out explaining how that fit into the larger goal. If i know how what I'm working on fits, the common goal, its easier for me to understand how important, or urgent somethign is, and how to answer some of my own questions while i'm working on it. Practice what you Preach: I had a boss that would get on my friends case for being late, or taking long lunches, but that's what my boss did everyday. My friend never listend because he felt it was okay because the boss did it. Fair Expectations: Good manager should set expectations for the employees that are fair. Great Manager: To Be a GREAT manager, one would need to optimize scheduling, always be available to those they supervise, be knowledgable in the jobs underneath him, so he could help out when needed. "dont be afraid to get your hands dirty" and do the work the people beneath you do. It helps them relate to you.
