How can I get a entry level job in investment banking?
Asked by Brandon M
I graduated with a degree in Finance in 2002, but I was unable to find a finance job. I took a job as a buyer for a manufacturing company, but now I want to get back into finance. One thing I don't want to do financial consulting. What is the easiest way to get into the financial world?

Your degree in finance is really all it takes. The vast majority of people start as an investment advisor (stockbroker, financial advisor, financial consultant, etc). Why? Because this is a good introduction to the world of finance and investing, which is what investment banking is all about.
Now of course, if you work for a firm that actually does investment banking, there's the opportunity for you to move into it as you become more experienced. If you work for a firm that doesn't do investment banking, then you'll eventually have to switch once you become more experienced.
How much experience does it take? It all depends on what you want to do in investment banking, but generally speaking, it takes somewhere around 1 to 3 years.
